1 Nephi 1:1-7

[Nephi]
I'm Nephi, and I'm going to tell you about what God did for me and my family.

[Lehi, Sariah, Laman, Lemuel, Sam]
This is my family. My dad, Lehi, my mom, Sariah, and my older brothers, Laman, Lemuel, and Sam. I didn't think it was important to tell you about my sisters, because I didn't think women were very important.

[timeline]
My story starts more than 2000 years ago.

[Nephi foreground, class background]
Almost no one went to school then, but my parents were rich enough to send me. I learned all the things my people, the Jews, thought were important, like how to write, and how to understand the Bible.

[ME map Jerusalem, bully/armies looming, untrustworthy/timid/scared/lazy friends]
My dad, Lehi, listened to the prophets talking about the Babylonian empire sending armies to Jerusalem because our leaders had decided to be friends with Egypt, but Egypt wouldn't really protect us.

[Lehi praying with heart straining]
My father, Lehi, prayed for our people.

[pillar of fire on rock, Lehi shaking]
There came a pillar of fire upon a rock in front of him. He saw visions that made him quake and tremble.

[Lehi sprawled on bed]
When he came home, he cast himself upon his bed.
